What is in the Audible Plus Catalogue in Australia
The Plus Catalogue is the "all you can listen" part of an Audible membership. It is useful, it is also widely misunderstood, and it can cost you a credit you did not need to spend. Here is how it works in Australia right now.

The short answer
The Plus Catalogue is a rotating library of "thousands" of audiobooks, Audible Originals and podcasts that Premium members (A$16.45 a month) can stream or download at no extra cost, on top of their monthly credit. You keep access only while you are a member and only while the title stays in the catalogue. Standard members (A$8.99) get a much smaller library of Originals instead. Never spend a credit on a title that is already in the Plus Catalogue.
Who gets it, as of 3 October 2026
| Option | Price | What you get | If you stop paying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Audible Standard | A$8.99 a month | One audiobook a month chosen from the whole collection, plus unlimited listening to a smaller library of Audible Originals. New members get 30 days free; Audible's front page also offered A$0.99 a month for the first three months, ending 28 December 2026. | Your monthly picks lock until you rejoin |
| Audible Premium (Premium Plus) | A$16.45 a month | One credit a month for any title, plus the Plus Catalogue to stream or download, plus member-only sales. 30 days free for new members. | Credit and cash purchases are yours; Plus Catalogue titles lock |
| Audible Premium, yearly | A$164.50 a year (12 credits) or A$274.60 (24 credits) | The same membership paid yearly: about A$13.71 a credit on 12, or A$11.44 a credit on 24. | As above |
| Spotify Premium Individual | A$15.99 a month | Music plus 15 hours a month of audiobook listening from a catalogue of more than 700,000 titles. Unused hours lapse at the end of each month. | Nothing to keep; access ends |
| Your library, on Libby or BorrowBox | Free with a library card | Borrow audiobooks for a set loan, usually two or three weeks; popular titles have a waiting list. | Loans simply return |
| Buy one audiobook outright | Varies by title | The book, for good. The median Audible Australia cash price of the 74 audiobooks on this site was A$21.40. | Yours |
Audible Australia now sells two monthly plans. Its front page and plans page call the dearer one Premium; some help pages still call it Premium Plus. They are the same plan. Older guides also describe a separate cheaper "Audible Plus" plan; that is not one of the plans Audible Australia offered when we checked.
What is in it
In Audible's words, the Plus Catalogue includes "thousands of select Audible Originals, audiobooks, and podcasts". In practice it tends to hold:
- Audible Originals: shows and books Audible commissioned itself.
- Podcasts, ad-free.
- Older and backlist audiobooks, including classics, self-help and some well-known titles.
- Rotating titles: books that join for a while and then leave.
What it usually does not hold is the newest bestsellers. Those cost a credit or cash.
Audible only shows whether a title is included when you are signed in as a member, so we could not check every book on this site against the catalogue from outside. Sign in, open the title, and Audible tells you whether it is included before it asks for a credit.
What happens when a title leaves, or you cancel
- Titles rotate. If a Plus title leaves the catalogue, it locks in your library even if you are partway through it.
- Cancel, and they all lock. Audible's FAQ: if you cancel, "you lose access to titles from the Plus Catalogue". They show a lock icon and come back if you rejoin.
- Credit and cash purchases are yours. Anything you bought with a credit or money stays, member or not.
The credit trap
Audible's own FAQ says every audiobook costs one credit, "including any audiobook in the Plus Catalogue". So it is entirely possible to spend a credit worth about A$16 on a book you could have streamed free that month. Before you press buy, check whether the title is already included.
The flip side: if a Plus title is one you will want to hear again in five years, spending a credit on it is the only way to own it.
Is it worth it for spiritual and self-development books?
This shelf leans on older, well-established titles, which are exactly the kind that often appear in subscription catalogues. If most of what you want is in the Plus Catalogue, Premium becomes very good value. If you mostly want new releases, you are really paying for the credit. Our Is Audible worth it? page does the sums, including the free library route.
Common questions
What is the Audible Plus Catalogue?
A rotating library of thousands of audiobooks, Audible Originals and podcasts that Audible Premium members in Australia can stream or download at no extra cost while their membership is active.
Do Audible Standard members get the Plus Catalogue?
No. In Australia, Standard (A$8.99 a month) includes one selected audiobook a month plus unlimited listening to a smaller library of Audible Originals, not the full Plus Catalogue.
Do I keep Plus Catalogue books if I cancel?
No. They lock when you cancel and unlock if you rejoin. Only books bought with a credit or cash are yours to keep.
Can I use a credit on a Plus Catalogue book?
Yes, and then you own it. But if it is already included in the Plus Catalogue, you can listen without spending the credit.
